In Kerala, the Congress led UDF is meeting on Monday afternoon to finalise its candidate for the post of speaker in the state assembly. Despite Chief Minister Oommen Chandy ruling out the possibility of cabinet expansion, Indian Union Muslim League and Kerala Congress (M ) , have been insisting on more ministerial berths. AIR correspondent reports, the newly elected members of Kerala assembly will be sworn in on Wednesday. Speaker of the 13th assembly of Kerala will be elected on coming Thursday. Former Minister A K Balan is the CPIM led Opposition candidate for the post. Congress sources indicate that senior leader G Karthikeyan is likely to be the party's choice. Demand for additional berths in cabinet from main parties in UDF and open expression of displeasure by Congress MLAs has created a slight ticklish situation for Oommen Chandy government in Kerala. Meanwhile, allegations against former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan for allotting 2.3 acre of land to his relative in ex service category violating norms and conventions has resurfaced as a major controversy.
