The BJP national president Mr. Nitin Gadkari has made the Congress-led Government at the Centre responsible for price rise of essential commodities. He said wrong economic policies and bad governance by the Central Government were behind all the misfortunes befalling the common men which even are compelling the farmers to commit suicide. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati this morning, Mr. Gadkari maintained that essential commodities should be excluded from the commodity exchange programme. The BJP president demanded that the Government should publish a white paper on inflation, price rise and destruction of food grains in Haryana and Punjab to make the people informed on the present situation. He also suggested the Centre to initiate plans to set up cold storages in all parts of the country to face the price rise situation. Referring to the North-East, Mr. Gadkari stated that terrorism and insurgency in the region is the result of constant neglect towards the agriculture sector by the Congress Party since independence. Earlier, Mr. Gadkari addressing a rally at Guwahati asserted that the BJP would never compromise on the security and sovereignty of the country and hence, the foreigners issue would always have topmost priority in its agenda. He said the BJP was committed to changing the concept of politics that presently, what he called, was degraded by a few parties including the Congress. He mentioned that BJP wants politics for development and progress.
