Senior Congress leaders today expressed displeasure over the execution of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon. In a series of tweets, Party leader Digvijay Singh said exemplary urgency and commitment have been shown by the government and Judiciary in punishing the accused. He said the government should show similar commitment in all terror related cases irrespective of caste, creed and religion.<br/><br/>Another party leader Shashi Tharoor said the country must fight against terrorism with all the means, but execution has never helped prevent a terror attack anywhere. He, however, said he is not commenting on the merits of the case as it is for the Supreme Court to decide, but death penalty as a punishment is wrong in principle and practice.<br/><br/>Party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar told media outside Parliament that India being a democratic country should abolish the capital punishment. He said such punishment cannot serve the purpose of fight against terrorism.
