Congress, JD(S) give notice of no-confidence against Karnataka Assembly Speaker

The Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka have given a notice to move a no-confidence motion against the Assembly Speaker K G Boppaiah. The request signed by Congress floor leader Siddaramaiah and JD(S) floor leader H D Revanna was submitted to the Assembly Secretary yesterday. The notice charges that the Speaker has failed to run the house according to the Constitutional provisions and acted with prejudice on various occasions. The Opposition has also charged that the Speaker appointed House Committees when the Session was not on, thereby committing breach of House rules. It also pointed out to a complaint against him filed with the Lokayuktha. The no confidence motion needs 14 days notice period before it is put up for voting on the floor of the House. But the duration of the ongoing session is for 12 days, so it is highly unlikely that the notice will be taken up for consideration this time. The Karnataka Assembly has 98 members from the Opposition and 106 from the ruling side.
