Congress heads to retain power in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh

The Congress appears to be heading to form governments in Maharashtra and Haryana, retaining power with slightly reduced numbers. The Congress is also poised for a clean sweep in Arunachal Pradesh.The Congress-NCP combine has bagged 66 seats and is leading in 73 seats in the 288 member Maharashtra assembly. The BJP-Shivsena combine got 44 seats and leading in 48. MNS headed by Raj Thakery has made its debut in the state assembly bagging 6 seats and is leading in 7. Others have got 21 and leading in 23.In Haryana, the Congress has won 34 and is leading in 7. INLD has got 23 seats and leading in 7. BJP got 4 and leading in 1. Others have got 9 seats and leading in 5.In the 60 member Arunachal Pradesh assembly, the Congress has bagged 21 and is leading in 7. NCP has got 1 and leading in 3. BJP has bagged one seat. Others have won in four seats and leading in 2. The Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has already been elected unopposed. The Pradesh Congress President Nabam Tuki won the Sagalee seat defeating his nearest NCP rival.The Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has won Bhokar seat. Other prominent winners include Narayan Rane, Kripa Sankar Singh, Praniti Shinde daughter of Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Meenakshi Prabhakar Patil of PWPI. Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Ajit Pawar of NCP are leading. In Amravati, congress candidate Rajendra Shekhawat, son of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil is now leading after 8 rounds of counting.He was trailing earlier. Moving on to Haryana, the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has won the Garhi Sampla Kiloi seat. Other prominent Congress winners include Kiran Choudhary, Savitri Jindal, Bharat Bhushan, Randeep Singh Surjewala and Sampat Singh. Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala of INLD has won Uchana Kalan seat. He is leading in Ellenabad constituency. His son, Ajay singh chautala of INLD has won the Dabwali seat. Former Minister and Congress candidate Venod Sharma has won the Ambala city seat. Kuldeep Bishnoi of the Haryana Janhit Congress has won the Adampur seat.Congress has expressed confidence it will form the government for the third time in a row in Maharashtra and for the second consecutive time in Haryana.
