The Congress appears heading for forming governments in Maharashtra and Haryana, retaining power with slightly reduced numbers. The Congress is also poised for a clean sweep in Arunachal Pradesh.As per results and trends available for the assembly elections in three states so far, the Congress-NCP combine has bagged 8 seats and is leading in 128 seats in the 288 member Maharashtra assembly. The BJP-Shiv Sena combine got 5 seats and leading in 88. MNS has got one and leading in 17. Others have got 4 and leading in 36. The BJP ‘ Shiv Sena combine has virtually conceded defeat. Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said that the party will analyse the results. Shiv Sena leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi said if it is a defeat, it has to be accepted by everybody. He said the party never expected these results. The Revenue Minister Narayan Rane of the Congress has won the Kudal seat. Jadhav Bharuro of the NCP has bagged the Guhaghar seat. Meenakshi Prabhakar Patil of PWPI has won Alibag seat. The Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is leading in Bhokar constituency. Deputy Chief Minister and NCP candidate Chhagan Bhujbal is leading in Yevla. Ajit Pawar of NCP is leading in Baramati. Praniti Shinde, daughter of Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Congress candidate has won Solapur central seat. Former Deputy Chief Minister and NCP candidate Mohite Patil Vijaysinh Shankarrao is trailing in Pandharpur constituency. In Amravati, congress candidate Rajendra Shekhawat, son of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil is trailing. The Congress Rebel Dr. Sunil Deshmukhe is leading in this constituency.In Haryana, the Congress is set to retain in power in the 90 member assembly. The party has won 12 seats and is leading in 34. INLD has got 3 seats and leading in 20. BJP got 1 and leading in three. Others have got one seat and leading in 16.The Congress candidates Savitri Jindal, Bharat Bhushan and Kuldeep Sharma have won Hissar, Rohtak and Ganaur seats. The Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is leading Garhi Sampla Kiloi. Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala of INLD is trailing in Uchana Kalan, but leading in Ellenabad constituency. His son, Ajay singh chautala of INLD is trailing in Dabwali. The Pradesh Congress President Phool chand Mullana, who was trailing earlier, is now leading in Mullana. Former Minister and Congress candidate Venod Sharma is leading in Ambala city. Jasma Devi, of Haryana Jan Hit Congress and wife of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal is leading in Nalwa. Kuldeep Bishnoi of HJCBL is leading in Adampur.In the 60 member Arunachal Pradesh assembly, the Congress has bagged 13 and is leading in 7. NCP has got 1 and leading in 2. Others have bagged three seats and leading in 1.Election Commission says that assembly elections in Jharkhand are likely to be held within three months. This was stated by Election Commissioner Mr. S.Y. Qureshi while participating in an election programme in All India Radio today. Brushing aside the criticism by some political parties, he said that there is no question of tampering with the electronic voting machines.
