Congress is facing a crisis as political rebellion has come out into the open in three party-ruled states. While in Assam, Health Minsiter Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned, in Maharashtra, Industries Minister, Narayan Rane too tendered his resignation.
On the other hand in Haryana, senior party leader Choudhary Birender Singh on Monday raised his voice against Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda saying if the Chief Minister continues to lead the party, he will not contest the assembly polls in the state.
Congress says two of its Ministers, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Narayan Rane, who resigned from Assam and Maharashtra governments were motivated by their personal ambitions to become Chief Ministers.
Briefing media persons in New Delhi on Monday, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, such desires cannot be fulfilled at the cost of party discipline. Congress leaders in Delhi, however, ruled out suggestions that it was a revolt by state leaders against the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
Assembly polls in Haryana and Maharashtra are scheduled to be held later this year.
