Congress has dismissed reports that some of its Ministers have written to party president Sonia Gandhi expressing their willingness to resign from their posts and work for the party. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters in New Delhi last night that congress leaders are working for the party whether they are a part of the government or the organisation. He was replying to questions on whether Union Ministers Salman Khurshid, Jairam Ramesh, Vayalar Ravi and Ghulam Nabi Azad had offered to resign from their posts and work for the Congress party.
AICC general secretary in-charge for organisations and media department Janardhan Dwivedi has also dismissed the report. Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the meantime held a strategy meeting with senior leaders.
Besides the Leader of the Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee, it was attended by several senior ministers including A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid as also political secretary to Congress President Ahmed Patel.
The consultations took place hours after Mrs Gandhi held parleys with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Congress Core Group meeting.
