The Congress on Wednesday demanded release of the Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh from Pakistani Jail on humanitarian grounds. Party spokesman Rashid Alvi urged Pakistan government should take a lenient view on Sarabjit's case following the goodwill gesture between the two countries following Pakistan President's Asif Ali Zardari's visit.
Speaking on the Sachar Committee Report, Alvi said the UPA government has already implemented some of the recommendations of the Committee and the rest will be implemented in due course.
Meanwhile, BJP also hoped that Pakistan would also free Indian death row convict Sarabjit Singh who has been languishing in a jail in Lahore for last 22 years. BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that his party wants Pakistan to show reciprocity and free Sarabjit Singh following the release of Chisti from jail Wednesday.
