Congress has demanded filing of an FIR against BJP leader Narendra Modi and others for violation of Model Code of Conduct in Varanasi today. In a complaint to the Election Commission, the party said the live telecast of Modi's roadshow in Varanasi and his filing of nomination in 117 constituencies where polling was on there today, is a clear violation of the modal Code of Conduct.
Party spokesperson Anand Sharma told reporters in New Delhi today that the commission should have taken pre-emptive action against live coverage of the show in those constituencies. He said the party does not want just issuing of notice. It wants action. He said FIR should be registered against all BJP leaders involved including the candidate from Varanasi.
On Modi's allegation that women are not safe in Congress ruled states, Sharma citing official data said, the highest number of rape cases have been reported in BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh and the track record is also not good in Gujarat.
