In Odisha, Congress on Tuesday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and three of his Cabinet colleagues in connection with alleged corruption in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Former Union Minister of State for Rural Development and working president of PCC, Chandra Sekhar Sahu, told media persons at Bhubaneswar that the Chief Minister and present Panchayati Raj Minister Prafulla Samal, former Panchayati Raj Ministers Raghunath Mohanty and Sanjeeb Sahu, also in the Cabinet now, to resign immediately as they are likely to influence the CBI probe into the MGNREGS scam. He said the Chief Minister should resign on moral grounds as being the head of the state-level monitoring committee on MGNREGS. He said, Mr Naveen Patnaik had not convened a single meeting in the last five years.Reacting sharply to the demand, senior BJD leader and Agriculture Minister Dr Damodar Rout said Congress is making a hue and cry for political reasons. Odisha is doing exemplary implementation of MGREGS and CBI woiuld give a clean chit, he said. The Centre has already requested the CBI to probe into the MGNREGS scam in Odisha following a direction from the Supreme Court.
