Congress criticizes Gujarat govt for lathicharge in Ahmedabad

Congress today criticized the Gujarat government for lathicharge on the protesters at a rally in Ahmedabad. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi Party Spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala said there is complete lawlessness in Gujarat where people are not only brutally beaten up by the police but recklessly fired upon.

Mr Surjewala alleged that anarchy has reached its zenith and the state government has become dictator and has shut down the Internet and SMS services. He also appealed to the people to maintain peace and social harmony in the state. Mr Surjewala also posed five questions to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel over the police action.

Responding to the Mrs Patel's comment that she has not ordered police to lathicharge, Mr Surjewala questioned who is running the administration in the state chief Minister or the PMO. When asked about congress stand on the protest by the Patel community, spokesperson reply was dicey. He said it is the responsibility of the state government to resolve the issue through dialogue.
