The Congress and the CPIM have attacked the BJP for the continuation of Yeddyurappa as Karnataka Chief Minister despite his alleged involvement in the land scam. The Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told reporters that the double standards of the BJP on the issue of corruption stand exposed as the tainted Karnataka Chief Minister continues and the leadership is silent on the issue. Expressing similar views the CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said, the fact that the BJP has not sought the resignation of Yeddyurappa raises a very fundamental question. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of BJP not asking Yeddyurappa to step down in the near future. Top party sources told AIR that this is because of the forthcoming Panchayat polls in the State and the fact that no strictures have been passed against Yeddyurappa by any court or any other agency. The party sources however did not completely rule out the change in the leadership in the State and maintained that the party is keeping all options open. The Opposition in Karnataka has been demanding the resignation of the Yeddyurappa for the land scam in which he allotted land to his own family members. The leaders from the non-UPA and non-BJP parties have also called for probing illegal mining and land grabbing in States like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and felt that political leadership must be made accountable.
