The Congress core committee today discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the demand by the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for amending or partial withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Power Act, AFSPA. The Jammu and Kashmir PCC president Saifuddin Soz , the AICC in charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Prithviraj Chavan and the Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended the meeting. The Army Chief had met the Prime Minister before the core group meeting. Earlier, Mr. Omar Abdullah met the Prime Minister on Wednesday to discuss the latest situation in the violence hit Kashmir valley. Later, he told media that he had made a request for the AFSPA to be withdrawn from the areas where it is not required. He said a beginning could be made in four districts on an experimental basis.
