Congress candidate from Saharanpur Imran Masood sent to judicial custody for 14 days

In Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur Congress candidate Imran Masood has been send to jail for 14 days under judicial custody. He was arrested late last night in connection with a FIR lodged against him at Deoband police station for violation of election model code of conduct, hate speech and objectionable remarks against BJP leader Narendra Modi. He was produced before a local court at Deoband today seeking his judicial custody. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ms Archana Rani send him to judicial custody rejecting his bail application.

Masood's lawyer told AIR Allahabad correspondent that a bail application will be moved to session court Saharanpur. District Superintendent of Police said that the police has not sought the remand of Masood to police custody. After receiving a video footage of Masood about his alleged hate speech a case was registered in Deoband Police Station against him. Masood has said that the clipping of his remarks were 7 months old.
