Congress asks Naveen to step downowning responsibility for famer's suicide

In Orissa, the Congress party today asked Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik to step down owning moral responsibility for the suicide of farmers. It said, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Government has badly failed in protecting interests of farmers reeling under drastic crop loss and loan burden. The party also submitted a 25-point charter of demands to Governor Mr MC Bhandare including probe by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) into the farmer’s suicide.<br/>Meanwhile, the issue also rocked Orissa Assembly today with Opposition parties demanding obituary by the House to the departed souls of the farmers who had committed suicide. Speaker Mr Pradeep Amat had to adjourn the House a number of times. The announcement of setting up of a Kissan Commission to look into the problems of farmers by the State Government even couldn’t satisfy the angry Opposition members.<br/>
