In Andhra Pradesh, the ruling Congress and its allies have won seven out of 10 seats in the elections held for the Legislative Council from the Assembly Quota. TDP won two and its ally CPI got one seat. One candidate each from TDP and Telangana Rasta Samithi has been defeated. The Counting was held till late Thursday evening. The Congress escaped defeat when Mohd Jani, Deputy Chairman of the Upper House, scraped through with the help of second preference votes. He won the elimination round by the narrow margin over TDP candidate Pratibha Bharathi. However, the TDP candidate has lodged a complaint against the counting of votes to the Chief Election Commissioner. The pattern of results showed that the members of all parties have committed to cross voting heavily. Some of the Congress MLAs defied the Party whip while TRS candidate could not get votes of its own party members. In all, five Congress candidates, one each of its allies, MIM and PR, two TDP and one candidate of its ally, the CPI made it to the Upper House.
