Congress President Sonia Gandhi has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the signing of peace accord with Nagaland group NSCN(I-M) early this week. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mrs Gandhi said, three of the Congress Chief Ministers of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were neither consulted nor taken into confidence while signing the deal. She said this kind of the attitude of the Modi government shows arrogance. On Monday, the Narendra Modi government had signed the landmark peace treaty with NSCN(I-M) in support of the peace efforts.<br/><br/>BJP today rejected Congress President Sonia Gandhi's allegation that the Chief Ministers of north-eastern states were not taken into confidence before signing the peace accord with the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM). The party said Ms. Gandhi's charges are far from the truth as the Congress ruled states were consulted but they chose to boycott the meeting. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party leader and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accused the Congress of playing politics even on the issue of national security. She wondered, how the Congress chief is questioning the accord, when the party leaders including Ninong Ering and Asam Chief Minister had welcomed it soon after the announcement. <br/><br/>Replying to a question on details of the accord, Ms. Sitharaman said the government is working out on it and it will be made public at an appropriate time. She clarified that Centre does not want to hide anything. She said the people of north east want development and peace and NDA government is working in that direction but opposition party does not like it. The Minister said the government believes in co-operative federalism and has always consulted states on every issue including Land Acquisition and GST bills and even on reconstitution of NITI Aayog.
