Cong to decide on Tharoor's future as minister

Hectic political activity is on ahead of the crucial meeting of the top leadership of the Congress party to take final decision on continuance of Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor in the Government. <br/><br/>The meeting assumes significance in the wake of Prime Minister's statement that he will take a decision on the issue following the reports of his alleged involvement in the IPL Kochi ownership controversy.<br/><br/> While the meeting of the Core Group in which the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi will be participating is scheduled to be held in the evening, Mr. Tharoor met the Prime Minister at his residence this afternoon.<br/><br/> According to party sources, he is believed to have explained his position to Dr Singh in the wake of the controversy. The sources, however, refused to draw any conclusions on the meetings. Mr. Tharoor, earlier held meetings with the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leaders and Cabinet Ministers, A.K. Antony and Pranab Mukherjee.<br/><br/>The Opposition is seeking the removal of Mr. Tharoor from the Government for his alleged involvement in the controversy. Parliament was rocked by the issue on Friday leading to the adjournment of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for the day. BJP has announced that it will not allow Parliament to function till the removal of the Minister from the Government.
