In Assam, the ruling Congress is leading in the Panchayat polls. It has won 14 Zila Parishad and leading in another district, when reports last came in.
Jubilant Congress workers distributed sweets and took out rallies with winning candidates.
Congress has won 250 Zila Parishad member seat so far out of 420 total seats. The ruling party has got majority in 14 districts while opposition All India United Democratic Front succeeded in two districts of Lower Assam.
Asom Gana Parishad won 25 seats while BJP managed to win 12 seats. Counting trend shows that Congress is also leading in Gaon Panchayat President and Anchalik Panchayat member.
More than 93 thousand candidates were in fray for 26 thousand 856 seats. Official sources said that final result is likely to be announced on Sunday.
