The tussle between Congress and ally NCP spilled out into the open at the inauguration of the additional carriageway of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Wednesday. The inaugration ceremony degenerated into a veiled mudslinging session between coalition partners Congress and NCP. Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal, in an indirect reference to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, said that ministers ought to clear files and not sit on them. Chavan, retaliated to this and took a dig at NCP ministers who headed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and said that there seemed to be preferential treatment for road-building in areas like Nagpur, Aurangabad and Beed where they hailed from.

The second leg of Bandra-Worli sea link was inaugurated yesterday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan graced the occasion. However there was controversy over bacchan being invited for the ingauration function. The sea link is now complete as four more lanes were added yesterday. The 4-kilometre sea link has cost the city 1634 crores. Work on the project began in 1999. The next phase will extend to Haji Ali in South Mumbai.
