Cong-NCP agree on power sharing in Maharashtra; Cabinet swearing likely on Friday

The Congress and NCP have reached an agreement on government formation in Maharashtra. The two parties were wrangling over key portfolios for past two weeks. According to party sources the two parties are likely to give their letter of consent to the Governor Mr. S C Jamir. Top NCP leaders are expected to make an announcement later this evening.<br/>The new Cabinet to be headed by the Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Chavan is expected to be sworn tomorrow. Mr Chavan is arriving in Delhi to meet the Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi to discuss the constitution of the New council of ministers.<br/>Last evening, the top NCP leaders had a meeting chaired by Mr. Sharad Pawar in New Delhi. The meet was attended by Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal and Mr. R R Patil apart from Mr Praful Patel. Later, they met A K Antony, who is in-charge of Congress affairs in Maharashtra and Ahmed Patel to finalise the agreement. The Congress had won 82 seats and the NCP 62 seats in the 288-member Assembly.
