The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi today called for balance between the responsibilities of the government and those of the party workers. Addressing Party's Samvaad Baidhak at Surajkund in Haryana this morning Mrs. Gandhi noted that there may be differences between the decisions taken by the government and the aspirations of the party but then, there should be a continuous dialogue to ease out the differences. She asserted that those party workers who are in the government should strive hard to fulfil unfulfilled promises in the 2009 manifesto. Conceeding that the government had to take some unpopular decisions because of global economic slowdown, she exorted the party workers to go to the people and tell them the compulsions behind such decisions which caused difficulty to the common man.
Cautioning that the detractors want to grab power at any cost, Mrs. Gandhi said that their greed would weaken democracy and secular values.Asking the party workers to put forth their views on empowering weaker sections of the society, Mrs. Gandhi said that the party has to be ready as only 18 months have been left for Lok Sabha elections.
