Cong, BJP continue to hit out at each other over Lalit Modi issue

Congress and BJP continued to hit out at each other over Lalit Modi controversy. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today Congress President Sonia Gandhi criticized External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her yesterday's statement in the Lok Sabha. She said, she would have extended best possible help to Lalit Modi's wife, who has been reportedly suffering from Cancer, but not by breaking the law. <br/><br/>Ms. Gandhi alleged that Sushma Swaraj staged a drama in Parliament while making statement on Lalit Modi issue. BSP Chief Mayawati also refused to buy External Affairs Minister's clarification on Lalit Modi controversy. CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said concerned BJP leaders should not hold office until inquiry is completed.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized Sonia Gandhi on her remarks against Ms Swaraj and termed the comments as an insult to the mandate of the people. Samajwadi Party also came in support of Sushma Swaraj with party leader Ramgopal Yadav saying his party is convinced with her statement on the controversy.
