Cong, allies meet to chalk out floor co-ordination strategy in Parliament

Ahead of the first session of the new Lok Sabha, Congress and its allies held a meeting yesterday to chalk out the floor co-ordination strategy in Parliament, where BJP has secured majority on its own in the Lower House but is in a minority in the Upper House.

It was the first meeting of the UPA Coordination Committee, headed by Sonia Gandhi, after the worst ever performance of the Congress as well as the alliance in the recently held General elections.

Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, IUML chief E. Ahmed and RLD President Ajit Singh were present at the meeting.

Lalu Prasad, whose RJD, was supporting the UPA-II government from outside and which fought this Lok Sabha polls in alliance with teh Congress, also attended the meeting.

The leaders spoke on how to play an aggressive Opposition role in Parliament without being obstructionist.

After the meeting, AK Antony said the alliance wants to work more closely in Parliament.
