Congress today alleged complicity of the government in allowing industrialist Vijay Mallya flee to London, despite a look-out notice by the CBI. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, Opposition Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, four different agencies are investigating frauds to the tune of over nine thousand crores by Mallya and his business houses. Azad denied having recommended any loan and demanded action against political leaders involved and banking officials, if any, for one of the biggest financial frauds.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, the original loan and its restructuring despite defaults committed by Mallya's companies, were done during the UPA regime. He said, the businessman was given undue benefits, despite defaulting bank loans. Jaitley said, his assets in the country have been attached and the money due to public sector banks will be recovered.

Jairam Ramesh of Congress charged, despite the banks moving the courts on 28 February to stop Mallya from travelling abroad, he was allowed to flee three days later. Meanwhile Naresh Agarwal of Samajwadi Party demanded to refer the case of Vijya Mallya, who is a sitting member of Upper House, to the Ethics Committee. Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien agreed to the suggestion.
