A conference on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act will be held in New Delhi today to mark five years of the flagship programme. It was on this day that the scheme was launched in Anantpur district in Andhra Pradesh five years ago. Under the scheme, 100 days of employment is guaranteed for unskilled manual work in villages across the country. A report showcasing the performance of the programme since it was initiated will be released. There will also be an interactive session with the workers who have completed 100 days of work under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA.
