Conference of the Parties on climate change beginning in Cancun today

The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, COP-6, on climate change is beginning in Cancun today. This Mexican session, comes a year after the high-profile Copenhagen Summit which drew virtually all major Presidents and Prime Ministers of the world. After falling short at Copenhagen, countries have set out a less visionary but still ambitious agenda for Cancun. It is aimed at reaching more limited technical agreements and rebuilding momentum for a sweeping deal in future years.Cancun meeting is a part of an ongoing effort under the United Nations to reach a global agreement for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases to avert catastrophic changes to the earth's climate.
