A conclave on Urban Poverty Alleviation and Rajiv Awas Yojana, RAY will be organised in Mumbai on Tuesday. During the day long deliberations, issues regarding driving the reform agenda under RAY at the State and City level, evolving a comprehensive policy framework and adopting a Mission mode approach to urban poverty in Maharastra will be discussed. According to an official release issued in New Delhi, the conclave is being held jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and the Government of Maharastra. During the conclave Union Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja will interact with the Maharastra Chief Minister Prithvi Raj Chavan and all other stake holders on the issues of property rights and community participation for effectively implementing the scheme.Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved the launch of Phase I of the Rajiv Awas Yojana to provide financial assistance to States willing to assign property rights to slum dwellers. The Scheme also provides financial assitance for the provision of shelter and basic civic and social services for slum redevelopment and for the creation of affordable housing stock. The scheme is expected to cover about 250 cities with a population of 1 lakh and above.
