Concerns about nuclear liability act 'unwarranted': Singh

Minister of State for the Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh has dismissed concerns regarding the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, saying the apprehensions are misplaced and unwarranted. Addressing the inaugural session of the 'India Nuclear Energy' summit in Mumbai, Mr. Singh said the Act will serve the country's best interests. <br/><br/>He said the Government has launched an insurance pool to the tune of 1,500 crore rupees in a bid to offset financial burden of foreign nuclear suppliers. The Minister added that nuclear energy will play a significant role in the years to come and ensure energy security. <br/><br/>Speaking about India's civil nuclear programme, Mr. Singh remarked that India has managed to realize Homi Bhabha's dream and has ensured peaceful application of nuclear energy. The two-day Nuclear Energy summit showcases the latest offerings and technologies in the field of nuclear energy.
