Composite Dialogue ruled out till Pakistan guarantees to act on Terrorism says Foreign Secretary

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has ruled out resumption of composite dialogue with Pakistan till the time Islamabad guarantees that terrorism can be controlled by its authorities. Speaking at the Widrow Wilson Centre, a Washington-based think-tank, Mrs Nirupama Rao said India has made several genuine efforts to restore trust and confidence with Pakistan. Mrs Rao noted that there should be strict accountability criteria that apply to defence assistance rendered to Pakistan for operations against terrorists and insurgents on the border with Afghanistan. The External affairs Minister Mr. S.M. Krishna has however, indicated that the next round of Foreign Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan may be held in Islamabad to take forward the dialogue process. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of India – Africa Project Partnership Summit 2010,in New Delhi. He said, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir visited India for talks and now it is the turn of Indian Foreign Seceretary to go to the Pakistan. However, he said that the nothing is confirmed so far.When asked if the Prime Ministers of two nations could meet at next month during the nuclear security summit in Washington the minister was non – committal.
