Complete rural electrification to be achieved by 1st May next year, says Piyush Goyal

Complete rural electrification in the country, including villages in Left wing extremist districts and dense forests, will be achieved by 1st May next year, one year ahead of schedule as set by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. <br/><br/>Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal told this to reporters in Vadodara at the end of two-day Conference yesterday which was attended by Ministers and senior Officials from the 20 participating States and two Union Territories. <br/><br/>He said that consensus was achieved on various important issues and future plan of action was finalized with the State Ministers during the marathon deliberations. <br/><br/>The Minister also informed that the Rural Electrification Corporation is in the process of finalizing a scheme to extend long term loans to the States to achieve hundred percent household electrification across the States. <br/><br/>Talking about a new initiative, Mr Goyal said that the Government would aid the setting up of small solar units by farmers, which would in turn power agricultural pump sets.
