Company Law Board stays auction of Uninor

The Company Law Board has stayed the auction of Telecom giant – Uninor. The Board said the auction process started by the telecom firm's majority owner, Telenor of Norway is very clever . The Board was hearing an application filed by Unitech, which holds a minority 32.75 per cent stake in Uninor. Staying the August 1 auction notice issued by Uninor, the Company Law Board Chairman Justice D R Deshmukh said the Board will hear both the parties. He directed other respondents to file their reply by Monday. In the August 1 notice, Uninor set a minimum bid price of 4,000 crore rupees and sought bids by August 6. In case no bidder turns up, Telenor would pay 4,190 crore rupees for the company, the notice said. Telenor wants to scrap the joint venture with Unitech and migrate its business to a new company to seek fresh operating licences. The joint ventures 22 telecom permits are among the 122 quashed by the Supreme Court in February.
