The President Pranab Mukherjee has said that a vast majority of cancer afflicted patients are reporting with an advanced disease at the time of presentation is a matter of concern. While laying the foundation stone of the State Cancer Institute at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bengaluru today, he said with the majority of our population residing in rural areas, a system for early detection and proper disease management should be developed. <br/><br/>How technology can be best utilised for both prevention of cancer and its treatment should be explored, he added. The President said that an appropriate and well defined communication strategy will be one of the key factors in the fight against cancer. <br/><br/>Governor of Karnataka Shri Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Union Ministers Shri H. N. Ananth Kumar, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Judge, Supreme Court of India Mr Justice V. Gopala Gowda, Karnataka state ministers Shri U. T. Khader , Dr Sharanprakash R Patil etc. also participated in the function. <br/><br/>Earlier, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sesquicentennial Celebrations of Bishop Cotton Boy's School in Bengaluru, Mr. Mukherjee has said that educational institutions should help to create scientific temper and attitude among students. The President added that the educational system should strive to eradicate the menace of superstitions and the institutions should help in the process.
