India is eyeing for 8 to 10 medals in the track and field arena in which it is sending its biggest contingent. The next big group will be in Hockey where 16 men and 16 women players formed the 32 strong contingent. The third contingent in terms of numbers will be the shooters – 30 in total. In 2010, India won substantial number of medals in Archery and Tennis. However, both these games have not been included in the forthcoming commonwealth games. Besides, Greeco Roman, Wrestling and shooting have also been scaled down from 44 in 2010 to 19 only. Despite the avenues of medals getting shrinking the Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association Rajiv Mehta expressed the hope that the performance of the Indian contingent as a whole will equal the performance in the Delhi commonwealth games. The Indian contingent will have 224 members which includes 90 officers, coaches and assistant staff.
