Common people should be involved in drafting polices for climate change: Ramesh

Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh has said that common people should be involved in drafting polices for climate change. Addressing the National Policy Dialogue on Climate Change Actions in New Delhi today, he said that adaptation to climate change has to be a community driven process instead of a government mandated process. He said that the National Action Plan on Climate Change should be based on daily experience of people and community who are actually facing impacts of climate change. Mr. Ramesh said that India is most vulnerable country to climate change as more than two-third of the population is still dependent on monsoon. He also added that livelihood of around 250 million people living in coastal areas of the country will be adversely affected with the rise in sea level. The Minister also said that India faces threat to water security due to melting of glaciers.
