A Parliamentary Committee has asked the government to bring in a new legislation or modify the existing Prasar Bharati Act without any further delay. In a report tabled in Parliament today, the Standing Committee on Information Technology expressed serious concern over the non-implementation of important provisions of the Prasar Bharati Act of 1990. The Committee has strongly emphasized the need for Prasar Bharati to find out ways and means to mobilize funds to reduce dependence on Government's grants to meet the operational costs. The Parliamentary panel also said that as desired by the Group of Ministers the number of deputation posts in Prasar Bharati Corporation to be manned by officers from Indian Information Service and other service cadres outside Akashawani and Doordarshan should be worked out expeditiously by the Ministry and Prasar Bharati.
