The government plans to set up a Committee for suggesting modes toprocure supplementary nutrition food to be provided under the Integrated child Development scheme, ICDS scheme as take home ration.The panel will consist of food scientists and experts from the fieldof nutrition and premier food institutes. Expressing concern thatsome of the states are not adhering to the revised nutritional norms,Minister of Women and Child Development Mrs. Krishna Tirath said that the recommendation of the panel will be circulated to all the States and Union Territories for their views. Later an affidavit will be submitted to the Supreme Court in this regard.She said that there is a need to examine whether the financial norms for providingsupplementary nutrition under ICDS scheme should be linked to thewholesale and consumer price index as has been done in the mid daymeal scheme. She said that providing sugar and vegetable oil at a subsidised rate in addition to wheat and rice could also be considered. Addressing a conference of State Ministers of Women and Child Development in New Delhi today Mrs. Tirath also suggested thatthe take home ration to the children in the age group of six months to three years and pregnant and lactating women need to be provided for full 365 days in a year instead of 300 days.She also suggested that adolescent girls in the age group of 11 to 14 years who are being provided hot cook meal under the Mid day meal scheme for 200 days in ayear may also be given supplementary nutrition in the form of take home ration under the Sabla scheme for the remaining days of the year.She said that the States should adopt public private partnership model for providing supplementary nutrition to deal with the problem of growing mal nutrition in the country. While highlighting the need for strengthening the infrastructure of the Anganwadi centres which serve as the platform for implementing Sabla and Indira GandhiMatritva Sahyog Yojna, IGMSY, Mrs. Tirath said that providing mobilesets for individual or on cluster basis can be considered forAanganwadi centres.
