The Centre has maintained that it will ensure all safety aspects of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) are fully taken care of, before it is commissioned. Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, V Narayanasamy told reporters in Tirunelveli, in Tamil Nadu that the Atomic Regulatory Board officials are still inspecting the plant. He said, a meeting of the Board officials was held on the 3rd December and order to commence power generation at the first unit will be issued by the end of this month. Mr. Narayanasamy said, there is no confusion or delay in commencing generation of power and the Government is only ensuring that all the safety aspects are taken care of. He said, out of 1,000 MW, Tamil Nadu will get 465 MW, while the rest will be divided among Karnataka, Puducherry and Kerala. The Minister expressed confidence that the KNPP's second unit will be commissioned within the next three months.
