Union Minister of State for Environment Jairam Ramesh declared in Bangalore on Saturday that his Ministry will make an announcement about commercialisation of Bt.Brinjal on February 10th in New Delhi. He made it clear that no more committees will be constituted and there will be no more public consultation or debate in Parliament.<br/><br/>Speaking to media persons after public consultation in Bangalore on Saturday he said genetic Engineering approval committee had recommended commercialisation of Bt.Brinjal on October 14 last year. The file had come to him after listening to 8000 people in seven cities across the country. He said he will now take a fair decision. He disclosed that nine states have already expressed their opposition to Bt.Brinjal, but there is a need to maintain a balance between genetic Engineering of food products and food security.
