Coming soon: 5-point agenda to fight corruption

Union Law Minister Verappa Moily has said that the Centre is working on a five-point agenda against corruption.Addressing a seminar on Election Reforms in Chandigarh today, he said that a group of ministers is working to curb the corruption. He said that elections are the origin of corruption which ultimately pollutes the whole system. So, there is a need to make elections an impartial process.Moily said that working of the Constitution and the Parliament is a measure of the success of Indian democracy. The Law Minister gave the credit for the success of democracy to the judiciary, the parliamentarians and the citizens of India.Earlier addressing seminar, Union Ministry for Corporate and Minority Affairs, Salman Khursheed said that caste system is affecting our election process and steps need to be undertaken to curb this trend.Addressing the seminar, Chief Election Commission SY Quraishi described state funding a dangerous trend. He said that electoral officers must be given six months' protection after the elections. Mr. Quraishi said that he does not favour opinion polls.Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that election process should be free and fair.This one-day seminar on Election Reforms is being organised by Union Law Ministry and Election Commission of India. Chief Ministers and opposition leaders of four Northern states, Punjab governor and three junior ministers are participating in this seminar.
