Come together & fight to safeguard unity & integrity of the country: Sonia Gandhi

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said the time has come for everyone to come together and fight to safeguard the unity and integrity of the country.<br/><br/>She was speaking at the ceremony of Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration to Mr P V Rajagopal in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Mr Rajagopal is a renowned Gandhian and social activist.<br/><br/>Mrs Gandhi said, certain organisations are trying to create division in society to further their own gains and India's glorious history of unity in diversity is in danger due to communal ideology.<br/><br/>She alleged that recent incidents of religious intolerance were pre planned.<br/><br/>Remembering former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 31st death anniversary, the Congress president said, Indira Gandhi believed that without empowering the socially backward classes, Unity in Diversity is not possible.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said there is a need for land reforms in the country.<br/><br/>He however, said, acquisition of land should be fair and humane.<br/><br/>Dr Singh said Indira Gandhi felt deeply about land related issues and was a champion of the poor and downtrodden.
