Columbian Film 'PORFIRIO' bags Golden peacock Award in Goa IFFI

With the presentation of awards in five different segments, the 42nd International Film Festival of India has come to an end with much fanfare at the Kala Academy in Panaji, today. The Golden Peacock Award for the Best Film was given to a Columbian Film ‘PORFIRIO’.

The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony, Southern Superstar, Suriya presented the award to the Director Alejandro Landes and Producer, Francisco Aljure. The award carries a Golden Peacock trophy, two certificates and 20 lakh rupees each to both the director and the producer of the film.

Silver Peacock Award for Best Director was presented to Azghar Ferhadi for his Iranian film NADER and SIMIN-A SEPARATION. The award carries a trophy, a certificate and 10 lakh rupees.

The Silver Peacock Award for Best Actor (Female) category was given to the actor NADEZHDA MARKINA for her role in the Russian film ‘ELENA’. The Silver Peacock Award for Best Actor (Male) category was won by SASSON GABEY for his role in an Israeli film ‘Restoration’.

The Special Jury Award was presented to Salim Ahamed for directing Malayalam film ‘ADAMINTE MAKAN ABU’ means Abu, Son of Adam’.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the five members Jury earlier said that the jury had screened 14 films from as many countries and unanimously decided the awards.

The Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Chaudhary Mohan Jatua described the event as an endeavor to understand social and cultural ethos of various countries through cinema.

Earlier, homage was paid to Brazilian Filmmaker, Oscar Maron Filho, who died while addressing an Open Forum at the IFFI’s main venue, last week.
