The Colombian government has opened a special centre to prevent procurement of nuclear material by Marxist rebels. Police said they have confiscated computers from FARC rebel group showing they were trying to obtain uranium in Europe. The country's Police chief announcing the establishment of the centre said the FARC were intent on acquiring uranium from Ukraine. The announcement comes after Russia agreed to build a nuclear reactor in neighbouring Venezuela. There have long been accusations that elements in Venezuela have provided support and weaponry for Colombian rebels.
