Colombia: Govt, FARC rebels to sign new peace deal tomorrow

In Colombia, a new peace agreement between Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia rebels will be signed in Bogota tomorrow. <br/><br/>Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has said it will be later sent to Congress for approval. He said, country has the unique opportunity to close the painful chapter in its history that has bereaved and afflicted millions of Colombians for half a century. <br/><br/>However, Government opponents led by former President Alvaro Uribe said the agreement is to conclude more than fifty years of civil war, resulting in death of more than 220,000 people. The original agreement was signed two months ago in a ceremony before the world leaders but it was rejected in a referendum on 2 October.
