The Chairman of the National Innovation Council (NIC) Sam Pitroda on Tuesday said NIC's top priority is to develop a framework to finance innovation for the bottom of the pyramid through the creation of an India Inclusive Innovation Fund.
Speaking to reporters after Prime minister released report to the people of the NIC, Mr Pitroda said in the first year of its existence, NIC has taken initiatives on many fronts including creating an institutional framework for innovations in government by facilitating the setting up of state innovation councils.
Mr Pitroda said National Innovation Council has focussed on nurturing a culture of innovation through education. He said National Knowledge Network would ultimately connect all colleges. He informed that to lauch a meta univeristy, which would provide a student the opportunity to pursue another discipline of study in another college that is part of the Network.
Mr Pitroda said this would enable a student of astrophysics in the Indian Insitute of Science in Bangalore to take up a course in some other discipline at another university.
Mr Pitroda said there is an urgent need to create mechanisms of collaboration among government, industry and the community at large to drive long-term transformation through innovation.
