Spine chilling cold conditions with dense fog continued to prevail in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir along with many other northern states while Orissa also shivered under unrelenting cold wave condition with mercury dipping to a record low.<br/><br/>Delhiites continued to shiver on Monday due to icy winds blowing from the snowcapped northern mountains even as the temperature rose slightly.<br/><br/>The Met department attributed the cold conditions to the icy winds blowing from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.6 degree Celsius against Sunday's minimum of 9.5 degrees.<br/><br/>The Met department's forecast said there may be mist or shallow fog on Tuesday morning. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 19 and seven degree Celsius respectively.<br/><br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, Leh City and adjoining areas and higher reaches in Ladakh region experienced the fourth major snowfall of the winter season last night. The snowfall continued till Monday morning.<br/><br/>The minimum temperature of (-)15.6 degree Celsius at Leh and (-) 16.8 degree Celsius at Kargil was recorded on Monday.<br/><br/>Traffic on Srinagar -Jammu National Highway continued to remain suspended following fresh snowfall.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that there has been more snow in the higher reaches but there was no rain or snow in Srinagar.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh spine chilling cold conditions with dense fog continued to prevail in most parts of the state bringing rail, air and road services to a screeching halt. Primary Schools have been closed till 7th of this month.<br/><br/>The UP government has sanctioned 10 crore rupees for blankets and bonfires for the poor people and has asked all the district magistrates to arrange bonfires at prominent places distribution of blankets among the destitute.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports that chilling cold is very beneficial for the wheat crop but heavy fog can damage the potato and mustered under frost. <br/> <br/>Farmers are happy with recent drizzling rains as it was fruitful for mustered and wheat. Agriculture experts have suggested formers for keeping fields of potatoes and mustered with water to save crops from frost.<br/> <br/>The biting cold condition in UP has been experiencing by the pilgrims at Sangam in Magh Mela also. <br/> <br/>The District Magistrate of Allahabad Sanjay Prasad told AIR Allahabad correspondent that Mela administration has made arrangements of bonfire for pilgrims throughout the day. <br/> <br/>The mela health officer DR S N Pathak also clarified that there is sufficient arrangements of medical staff at mela area.<br/><br/>Maximum temperature was recorded 2 to 10 degree celsius below normal at most of the places with Shahjahanpur recording the lowest temperature in the state at 2.8 degrees celsius. Heavy fog also disrupted train services at a number of places.<br/><br/>Meanwhile death toll due to cold rose to more than 100 with fresh casualties reported from Siddharthnagar, Mirzapur among other districts of the state.<br/><br/>Light showers in parts of Rajasthan on Monday led to a further dip in temperature in the desert state where Mount Abu was the coldest place at 3.1degree Celsius. According to the MeT office, there will be a further dip in temperature.<br/> <br/>The cold wave continued unabated in Punjab despite a marginal rise in the minimum temperature last night. <br/> <br/>Amritsar remains the coldest at 1.4 degrees Celsius last night. The minimum at the Capital city of Chandigarh also fell and was recorded at 5.6 degrees celsius.<br/> <br/>The light to moderate rain that the state received on Sunday is considered good for the winter crops. Cloudy weather conditions continue for the second successive day on Monday. <br/> <br/>Due to cloudy weather the ground visibilility on Monday morning was a little bit better as compared to the visibility during last week.<br/> <br/>The MET office has forecast cloudy weather for the next 24 hours. A warning has also been sounded for fog on Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>Orissa also shivered under unrelenting cold wave condition with mercury dipping to a record low. Places like Phulbani recorded 4 degree Celsius, while hilly Tensa in Sundargarh district, Joda, Kiriburu and Kanjipani in Keonjhar district and Daringbadi recording near-zero temperature.<br/><br/>The weather office has predicted that the chilly conditions will prevail for the next two days.
