Cold wave tightens grip across north India; Death toll rises to 305 in UP

Cold wave conditions continued in Northern India with Mount Abu in Rajasthan registering below zero temperature. Fog accompanied by cold wave disrupted life in Rajasthan forcing the rescheduling of flights and trains.<br/><br/>Delhiites also continue to experience biting cold with fall in the minimum and maximum temperature. Delhi recorded 7.2 degrees celsius at 5.30 hrs on Monday morning.<br/><br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, the cold wave conditions intensified with mercury dipping a few notches further. While Ladakh region is freezing around minus 21 degrees celsius, the world famous Pahalgam recorded minus 7 degrees celsius.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, the night temperature rose marginally in the plains but the hilly areas continue to be under sub-zero temperature.<br/><br/>In Punjab dense fog disrupted normal life. A report from our Chandigarh correspondent:<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh chilly cold conditions are prevailing in the state with death toll due to cold rising to 305.<br/><br/>The state government has announced closure of all schools up to 8th standard till 13th of this month and also directed the schools administration to change the timing for other classes.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that below normal temperature has been recorded in the night and the day.<br/><br/>Chilly winds and dense fog continue to hit normal life in Uttarakhand.<br/><br/>According to the Met Department fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India in the next 48 hours causing fairly widespread snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.<br/><br/>Light rainfall at a few places would also occur over plains of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.<br/><br/>In view of obscured sky conditions due to lifted fog and low clouds, cold day conditions may continue. In addition, due to confluence and merger of winds, light to moderate rainfall is also forecast over parts of central and east India during the next 36 hours.
