Cold wave sweeps north India; Heavy snowfall paralyses normal life in Kashmir, Himachal

Cold wave continues to sweep north India. Heavy snowfall has paralysed normal life in the Kashmir valley. It also remained cut off from the rest of the country due to closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National highway which remains closed for the third day today.

In Himachal Pradesh, a fresh spell of snow occurred in several parts the state. Shimla, Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj, Manali and Dalhousie experienced 15 cm to 30 cm of snow yesterday. Rain coupled with icy cold winds made maximum temperatures slide down across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Severe cold wave conditions have affected normal life in Uttarakhand. AIR correspondent reports that snowfall continued at higher reaches of the state.

In national capital Delhi, maximum temperature dipped to 17.7 deg C, three notches below normal yesterday.

In Uttar Pradesh, two people were killed and another injured when their motorcycle dashed against a tree due to poor visibility caused by fog. Light rainfall was recorded in parts of the state.
