Cold wave conditions continue unabated in several parts of North India

Cold wave subsided during morning hours today Cold wave sweeping across the country, particularly in northern India subsided to some extent during morning hours today giving major reprieve to the people.<br/><br/>According to reports , night temperatures were appreciably below normal in some parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana, and in remaining parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.<br/> <br/>They were below normal in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan and Goa, and in remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Telangana. They were above normal in some parts of Rajasthan and south interior Karnataka, and in remaining parts of Tamil Nadu.<br/>The lowest minimum temperature recorded over the plains was minus 2.9 degree Celsius at Umaria in eastern Madhya Pradesh.<br/><br/>Rain or thundershowers had occurred at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Odisha, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during the morning hours today.<br/> <br/>In the national capital. though the mercury shot up slightly in the early hours today, yet there has been no respite from cold conditions. The minimum temperature settled at 7.6 degree Celsius, one notch above normal. <br/><br/>The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy sky with shallow to moderate fog at many places of the capital tomorrow morning, with no rainfall. The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley witnessed considerable improvement though day was cloudy and chilly.

Cold wave conditions continue unabated in several parts of North India. In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar and other areas in the Kashmir Valley are reeling under cloudy dry cold conditions. The MeT department has predicted slight snowfall in higher reaches of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Zojila and other areas in south and north Kashmir in the next 12 hours. It has also predicted that cold dry wave is likely to continue for next 4 to 5 days with a dip in temperatures.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, Kashmir's winter including that of Ladakh region cannot be imagined without chill and snowfall. In fact, these are survival indicators of Kashmir Division's ecology, environment and bio-diversity. The availability of amenities like power, cooking gas and other essential commodities help better to survive the winter afflicted difficulties particularly in rural, mountainous and far flung areas in the region. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway is through for traffic on both sides. After remaining closed for three consecutive days, the 86 Km long Mughal Road connecting Valley through Pir Panjal region, was today thrown open for traffic on both sides of the Road.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, despite bright sunshine, many parts of the state continued to shiver. AIR correspondent reports that the MeT department has forecast rain and snowfall on middle and high hills for the next 24 hours.<br/><br/>Delhi, however, woke up to a relatively warmer morning today as the minimum temperature rose to 7.6 degrees, one notch above the season's normal. The mercury was hovering around 5 degrees Celsius in the past few days. Shallow fog occurred in many of parts of the city with visibility around 600 meters at 5.30 AM. The MeT office has forecast partly cloudy sky for the day with maximum temperature reaching up to 22 degrees Celsius.
